Karachi is the largest city, the main seaport and financial center of Pakistan, and the capital of the province of Sindh. With an estimated population of about 22 million, Karachi is one of the world's largest cities in terms of population. It is Pakistan's premier center of banking, industry, and trade.
The children in SOS Children’s Village Karachi lead busy lives and, besides many extra-curricular activities, are provided with assistance in their studies. As in all Villages, emphasis is laid on academic ambition, as the children must realize their full potential.
The SOS School’s results on the Board examinations are excellent and the school is offering subjects leading to professional courses. This institution has had a big impact on the existing educational standards and is recognized as one of the best in the area.
The SOS youth home (adolescent boys home) is located about 15 minutes drive from SOS Children’s Village Karachi. The boys benefit from the provision of good facilities while attending school and training in different organizations and universities. They also have an active scouting program, especially the one organized by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in which the SOS children take a keen interest.
Another addition to the facilities available in Karachi is the SOS Technical Training Institute based in Korangi. All the workshops are operational, with the automobile workshop being especially popular. It can train 1200 students every year who can benefit from the vocational training on offer. The courses are structured for both boys and girls and will go a long way toward ensuring job eligibility and empowerment for the young people who participate in the program.
The SOS Medical Centre for Women and Children is situated within the Village and offers free treatment to the community. A doctor is available here daily, who ensures the good health, hygiene, and medical record of the Village Residents and connects with the community.
